Austrian Bundesliga 2025/26: LASK End Salzburg Era in Historic Title Win
LASK won the Austrian Bundesliga with 58 points — ending years of dominance by RB Salzburg, who slumped to 3rd (48 pts). Sturm Graz (56 pts) were close runners-up, but the biggest story was Salzburg's fall from grace in a season that reshuffled Austrian football entirely.

The Title Race
LASK and Sturm Graz were the dominant pair from October onwards. LASK's title was sealed in the penultimate round after Sturm dropped points in a crucial home match. The 2-point margin between the clubs belied how close the contest was — they were within a point of each other for much of the season.
RB Salzburg's 3rd-place finish (48 pts) — 10 points off the title — ended their unprecedented run of consecutive Austrian titles. It was a historic moment for Austrian football.
European Qualification
LASK qualify for Champions League qualifying. Sturm Graz enter the Europa League. RB Salzburg — despite their disappointing season — secure Conference League football.
Relegation
Grazer AK (37 pts) were relegated through the relegation playoff. BW Linz (29 pts) were automatically relegated — their 66 goals conceded was the worst defensive record in the league.
The Story: The End of the Salzburg Era
RB Salzburg had been Austrian champions for 11 consecutive seasons before this one. Their fall to 3rd — amid squad disruption, coaching changes and key player departures — is one of the biggest stories in recent Austrian football.
LASK, based in Linz, provided a compelling alternative narrative. Their aggressive pressing style and clinical finishing proved unstoppable in the second half of the season.
Looking Ahead
LASK aim to retain the title and make an impression in Europe. Salzburg will be desperate to reclaim their throne. Grazer AK and BW Linz drop to the 2. Liga.
