Jupiler Pro League 2025/26: Brugge Hold Off Union in Epic Title Battle

Club Brugge retained the Jupiler Pro League title with 88 points, holding off the relentless challenge of Union St. Gilloise (86 pts) in a title race that went to the final day. Belgian football rarely produces such a compelling battle between two clubs of such different financial means.

The Title Race

Club Brugge and Union St. Gilloise played a 40-game season including the Championship Round playoffs. Brugge's 91 goals was the highest in the division; Union's 27 goals conceded was the best defensive record. Two very different styles — but both pushed the title to the last moment.

St. Truiden (71 pts) had a superb season in 3rd, earning Conference League football. Genk (59 pts) and Standard Liège (57 pts) had solid campaigns, while Anderlecht (55 pts) continued to underperform relative to expectations.

European Qualification

Club Brugge qualified for the Champions League. Union St. Gilloise enter the Europa League. St. Truiden secure Conference League football in what would be a first European campaign for the club.

Relegation

Dender (26 pts) and RAAL La Louvière (34 pts) were relegated through the relegation playoff system. Dender, in their first top-flight season, struggled throughout.

The Story: Union's Remarkable Journey

Union St. Gilloise's 86-point season was extraordinary given their resources compared to Brugge. They conceded just 27 goals in 40 games — a record for the Belgian division. Their compact, well-organised style under their coach is a masterclass in modern coaching.

Missing out on the title by just 2 points will sting. But Europa League football represents a new chapter for a club that was in the lower divisions of Belgian football as recently as 2021.

Looking Ahead

Brugge and Union will battle again. Anderlecht need to show improvement. Dender and RAAL face life in the Challenger Pro League.
