The Title Race
FC Thun were dominant from the very start of the season, building an early lead and defending it with impressive consistency. Their 62 goals scored and just 31 conceded gave them a goal difference of +31 — comfortably the best in the division.
FC St. Gallen (70 pts) had a superb campaign and pushed Thun for much of the season, but five points was ultimately the gap. FC Lugano (67 pts) were excellent in 3rd, showing that Swiss football outside the traditional big two is increasingly competitive.
European Qualification
FC Thun qualify for Champions League play-offs as champions. FC St. Gallen enter Europa League qualifying. FC Lugano secure Conference League football.
Relegation
FC Winterthur (23 pts) were relegated with the worst record in the division — conceding 67 goals in the Swiss Super League season. They were bottom from early October and never recovered.
The Story: Thun's Fairytale Title
FC Thun's title is one of the great Swiss football stories. Based in the Bernese Oberland, Thun is a city of just 44,000 people. The club had spent years in the shadow of Young Boys and Basel, but this season they proved that smart football beats financial power.
Young Boys' collapse will dominate Swiss football discussions in the off-season. After years of domestic dominance, they finished 20 points behind the champions — a historic low for the club.
Looking Ahead
Thun face the challenge of retaining their squad amid expected interest from larger clubs. Young Boys will need to rebuild. Winterthur drop to the Challenge League.
